Advancing Policy Coordination for Livestock Sector Growth: SLeCAD at the LLDP National Steering Committee Meeting

The Sierra Leone Chamber for Agribusiness Development (SLeCAD) participated in the National Steering Committee (NSC) Strategic Review and Planning Session of the Livestock and Livelihood Development Project (LLDP), held on 5 December 2025 at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security headquarters in Freetown.

The high-level session was convened to provide strategic oversight and policy guidance for the implementation of the LLDP, bringing together key line ministries, development partners, and technical institutions. Central to the discussions was the review of the 2026 Annual Work Plan and Budget, alongside considerations on institutional readiness, coordination structures, and inclusion priorities.

Deliberations highlighted the role of the livestock sector in advancing national objectives on food security, employment, and economic resilience. Particular attention was given to youth and women participation, value chain development, and the need for strong inter-ministerial collaboration to ensure effective project delivery.

SLeCAD’s engagement at the National Steering Committee level reflects its growing role as a bridge between policy frameworks and private sector participation. Through its involvement, the Chamber contributes to ensuring that national livestock policies are informed by market realities and that implementation approaches remain commercially viable and inclusive.

The session reaffirmed government commitment to coordinated and accountable implementation of the LLDP, with clear alignment to the Feed Salone initiative and broader national development priorities. The meeting concluded with policy-level endorsement of the project’s strategic direction and strengthened institutional ownership across participating ministries.

SLeCAD remains committed to supporting the translation of policy decisions into practical agribusiness opportunities through coordination, communication, and private sector engagement that contribute to sustainable livestock sector development in Sierra Leone.
