The Sierra Leone Chamber for Agribusiness Development (SLeCAD) participated in the three-day Technical Startup Workshop for the Livestock and Livelihood Development Project (LLDP), held from 19–21 November 2025 at the Barmoi Hotel in Freetown. The workshop marked a critical step in transitioning the LLDP from planning to implementation following its national launch.
The engagement brought together key government institutions, development partners, implementing agencies, and private sector actors to align on the operational framework, funding arrangements, and implementation priorities for the project. Discussions focused on the 2026 Annual Work Plan and Budget, donor compliance requirements, procurement systems, environmental and social safeguards, and coordination mechanisms across institutions.
Throughout the sessions, emphasis was placed on strengthening livestock value chains through farmer field schools, enterprise development, improved market access, and youth and women inclusion. The workshop also underscored the importance of effective communication, knowledge management, and private sector participation in delivering sustainable livestock and agribusiness outcomes.
SLeCAD’s participation ensured that private sector and agribusiness perspectives were represented at the technical design stage of the project. By engaging directly with development partners and government institutions, the Chamber strengthened its understanding of how LLDP interventions will support enterprise growth, market linkages, and commercially viable livestock production systems.
This engagement positions SLeCAD to better support agribusiness actors in navigating upcoming opportunities under the LLDP, including enterprise support mechanisms, capacity-building initiatives, and structured market interventions. It also reinforces the Chamber’s role in facilitating dialogue between public investment programmes and private sector participation.
The workshop concluded with a shared commitment among stakeholders to coordinated implementation and results-driven delivery. The outcomes of the engagement align with the Government of Sierra Leone’s Feed Salone agenda and lay the foundation for inclusive livestock sector growth, job creation, and improved rural livelihoods.
